Chai Tea Latte Recipe by Pearl Christine

Hi friends, it is almost summer (or already is depending on where you live), that makes it the perfect time for year to add some fun new iced drinks into your life.
Pearl from the blog Pearl Christine, and I decided to do a blog swap where we post iced tea recipes on each other's blogs. After you read Pearl's post here (and make her chai latte) be sure to head over to her blog to read my blueberry iced tea post, and make sure you subscribe to her blog and email list! (The link is in her bio at the bottom of this post.)

Chai lattes are my absolute favorite drink in autumn (Even second to pumpkin spice lattes which says a lot!) and I love drinking them through the summer too. They are sweet & spicy, with creamy milk and foamy cold foam. Plus, they are quick and easy to make!

What Does Chai Taste Like?
It tastes like tea spiced with fiery ginger and black pepper, sweetened with cinnamon and maybe some nutmeg with fragrant herbal notes of cardamom. It can be spicier with more ginger and pepper or less spicy with more cinnamon and nutmeg.

Altogether, it’s a robust and flavorful experience. It hits all the right notes and adds a warming sensation.
Does A Chai Latte Have Caffeine?
Since the base of chai is black tea, it does have caffeine but not as much as coffee. You can also get non-caffeinated chai tea bags if you don’t drink caffeine.

How To Make Cold Foam -
Cold foam is optional but it makes your latte so much more fun. Make your cold foam by adding milk, half & half or heavy whipping cream to either a milk frother or a blender. Add sweetener of your choice. Blend or froth until you get your desired consistency. (I use a hand blender when I’m making only one cup and it takes around 3 minutes. I usually do it while the tea brews to save time!)
Can I Make It Ahead?
Yes! You can make a big batch of chai tea concentrate and keep it in the fridge so you have it ready to go for the week!

Use 1 cup boiling water, 4 tea bags, and a teaspoon of chai spice for big batches.

Ingredients -

  • Boiling water – Water is used to steep the tea bags to create our chai concentrate. Make sure it’s very hot!
  • Chai tea bag – I used a chai tea bag for this latte, but you could make a tea latte with any of your favorite teas. You could for example try it with a winter spice or earl grey tea.
  • Chai spice – Chai spice is a great way to add even more chai flavor to your latte. Morton and Basset is my favorite chai spice, but if you can’t find chai spice in your grocery store, you can make your own or swap it for cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
  • Milk – I just use regular milk to make this latte, but you can use dairy-free or any milk you like.
  • Maple syrup – I love the flavor of maple syrup with chai, but you can use any sweetener you’d like.
  • Ice – Makes it nicely chilled and refreshing.
It’s as easy as steeping the chai tea with extra chai spice, sweetening it, pouring it over ice and topping it off with your milk of choice. Add your cold foam, drizzle caramel, and  sprinkle cinnamon/chai spice.
Enjoy!
